Welcome to MSU GIS

Welcome to MSU GIS. Publicly accessible resources are available on this page. More features may be available after logging in, us the logon button at the top-right (requires MSUNet ID and Password).
Before logging in to the system, please install our root certificate from the downloads section. You may also want to install the plug-ins that are available there. The Autodesk MapGuide plug-in is required for some mapping applications on the secure site.

Important Notice

The week of July 7th, 2008, we will be upgrading the GIS system. The new system will no longer require the MapGuide plug-in to view the maps. The initial roll-out of the system will have a reduced set of content available compared to the current system. All existing components of the system will be ported to the new interface in the order of most use.
While existing component are converted to the new system, the current system will still be available from a link that will be posted at this spot when the conversion occurs. If you require some of the existing functionality of the system that is not available on the new system yet, please check this spot for the link to the old system.

Walking Loops
Most of us can probably use more exercise than our busy schedules will allow. Sponsored by MSU's health4u program, this map provides a set of walking paths (loops) for you to get out and stretch your legs. The map includes the length of each path, locations of emergency phones, and the location of many campus art attractions to make your walk more enjoyable.
Go to walking loops page.

Bus Routes
Need to go somewhere on campus? Public transportation helps preserve the environment, cut down on traffic, and saves your parking spot while you have to travel throughout the day. This map lists all campus routes and stops. Includes photographs of each bus stop.
Go to the bus routes page.

Master Plan
Ever want to know what plans MSU has in its future for the campus? The Master Plan page has all the details from planning principles, to zoning ordnances, to photos of the campus from years gone by.
Go to the 2020 Master Plan page.

Crime Stats
Campus Safety and Security isn't just the responsibility of DPPS. We all have to work together to prevent crime. The information on the page will help us all evaluate how we are doing, and might help us find things we can do to continue improving campus life for everyone.
This site is temporarily unavailable.

Utility Consumption
Conserving electricity is something we can all do to help save the environment. And tax payer dollars. The data on this page is the first step in a comprehensive environmental stewardship program here at MSU. You can view building by building electrical consumption and view month to month, year to year data.
Note: This page requires the Autodesk Mapguide Plugin and Internet Explorer 6 or higher. A version of this page will be available in Spring '08 that does away with this requirement.
Go to the Utility Consumption Page.

Downloads
The GIS requires plugins for certain features. All required plugins can retrieved here.

Root CertificateDownload the MSUGIS Root Certificate
Required to achieve a secure connection with our servers. Installation is not required if you do not need MapGuide functionality from secured pages, but the MapGuide plug-in will not function without this root certificate installed.

MapGuide PluginDownload Autodesk MapGuide Viewer Plug-in
Required for pages that use the MapGuide viewer technology. Requires Internet Explorer 6.0+ and Windows 2000+. We are currently migrating our maps away from this plug-in, and it will no longer be required by the end of 2008.

Adobe AcrobatGo to the Adobe website to download AcroReader PDF Viewer
The ubiquitous PDF viewer from Adobe. Many reports are generated from the GIS in PDF format.

Java Version 6Got to the Sun website to download the Java Version 6 Runtime/Plug-in.
The Java runtime environment. As we migrate away from the MapGuide plug-in, the majority of pages will become plug-in free. Some of the more complicated items, however, need more functionality than simple web pages can offer. Several items are under development that will require Version 6 of the Java Runtime Environment to be installed on the client.
